Whitney High School is a public university preparatory magnet school for
academically talented students, grades 7-12. It was officially named Gretchen
Whitney High School in honour of Gretchen Whitney, who served our community
in a variety of positions including city council, board of education and
educator.

Mission Statement
Whitney High School is a single-purpose high school for grades 7-12 whose
primary mission is to prepare academically proficient students for entrance
into universities. The school emphasizes academics and appropriate co-curricular
experiences that develop socially and academically successful students.
Whitney High School represents the District's commitment to alternative
education for high achieving students who are selected from throughout the
District. The goals of Whitney High School will reflect its mission statement.

School Vision
Whitney High School will strive to maintain high academic achievement with
one hundred percent of its graduates granted admission into a four-year
college or university. The school recognizes and supports cultural diversity
and promotes an environment where students, parents and communities experience
learning as a lifelong process. The school will remain committed to programs
and services for students in grades 7-12 which will result in parents,
community groups, businesses and civic organizations to recognize the school
as a center of excellence for learning and renewal.
To uphold the high standards of success, Whitney High School will conitnue to
follow its mission statement and to make academics the
first priority. We will maximize our opportunities to use technology in our
instructional delivery system and will involve students with staff in the
creation of cirricula that will focus on college admission, professional paths
and life skills. The school will involve the community as a true partner in
serving the needs of the students. Local business partners, parent groups and
the Whitney Foundation for Educational Excellence will assist in providing
financial support and training opportunities for students and staff.
Whitney High School will provide a learning communitiy that inspires in its
students and families, the passion and power to make positive life choices by
becoming architects of their future. These plans include personalized learning
plans, equal access to a college preparaty core curriculum that is both
integrated and concept driven, and real life experiences.
